If you are female, and live to age 50 without heart disease or cancer, you can expect ot live to age 92. This is the good news. The bad news is you are going to live to age 92.

A man who reaches age 65 has a life expectancy of 15-20 years.
So after retirement, one can expect to live another 25 years. To maintain a quality of life, we need a strategy to age successfully. In 1900, average life expectancy was 47 years. In 2000, it was 80 plus years. Today, the life expectancy for a woman who reaches 65 is 25 more years. For a man, it is 15 or more years.
The people over age 85 are the most rapidly increasing segment of our society.
Therefore, what are the Ten Commandments of successful aging.
1. Address risk factors – get regular checkups, fix what is broken. For example, if BP is increased, take medication. Fix obesity – lose weight. Get mammograms, colonoscopies and address cholesterol and high sugar issues.
2. Exercise and Stretching – physical activity is the crux of anti-aging. Exercise is the antidote for heart disease and some cancers. 30 minutes a day is all that is necessary. PHYSICAL ACTIVITY IS THE CRUX OF ANTI-AGING. Strength training – 1 set of 8-12 repitions every other day. By age 70, 7 % of females can't lift a gallon of milk, and a large % of males can't get off the floor if they fall. Strong people stay young.
