Researchers from the University of California/Los Angeles School of Medicine (USA) completed a meta-analysis of nine studies involving a total of 194,965 study subjects.  The team revealed that people who drank 2 or more cups daily of tea a day reduced their risk of stroke by 21% (as compared to subjects who drank less than 1 cup a day).

Those who drank an additional 3 cups daily, further reduced stroke risk another 21%.  Both green and black tea were found to cause these risk reductions: the researchers submit that the polyphenol, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), or the amino acid, threanine, present in  varying but significant amounts in both kinds of tea, may be the responsible mechanism of action.

Enjoy a cup of tea daily.  Both green and black varieties are rich in a number of compounds that are being further investigated for their potentially interventive impact on a number of diseases.
